25 Weeks Pregnant! - Belly Pics, Baby Updates, Breast feeding

Today I reached 25 weeks.  I noticed I am more tired, and I'm getting crampy a lot more.  By the afternoon time when I'm at work I am DEAD tired!

We keep wondering who she will look like and what her personality will be like.  I'm starting to become more and more anxious to meet her.

Here are some pics of my belly from today...

My poor tattoo :o(

I am so happy persimmons are back in-season because I love them, and they have been great for my digestive tract.   I was able to pick-up 27 of them for $6.99 from the Asian market by my job.  Another place, Three Guys, had them for 4/$3.99, which was too much.

Two different kind of persimmons. I like the ones to the right.

What's the baby up to this week?

  • She's around 9"(CRL)  & 13.5" (head to heels) in length
  • She weighs over 1.5 lbs
  • Capillaries are forming under her skin and are filling up with blood
  • By the end of the week air sacs will develop in the lungs, although not fully developed as of yet.
  • Surfactant (if you watch RHOA you might have heard Kim mention this ..) is developing in her lungs as well.
  • Her nostrils are beginning to open up.
  • She stays low for the most part.  There are times I feel her kicks/jabs near my ribs.  I am not looking forward to when they become strong, painful kicks.
  • Her movement patterns are more consistent now.  I'd say it's like every 2.5 to 3 hours I feel her.  my aunt who is a midwife said that's how she should be once she's born.  Lucky me!

Breast feeding...
I am going to try to breast-feed since "Breast is the best" and it costs less.  I haven't decided if I will solely breast feed or if I will supplement with formula.  I guess I will see what works when the time comes.  I know that it will be hard to do once I return to work.  That's the only reason  I have reservations.

I picked out the Medela Breast Pump (it's on my Target Registry).  Anyone have any advice on breast pumps?

A Prego Thanksgiving = Lazy Thanksgiving & Good news!

What did I do on Thanksgiving?  I was the tester.  I tasted everything.  I was supposed to make the baked macaroni and cheese AKA macaroni pie, but my Mother was so impatient she ended up making it herself.  I did end up making a brandy pecan pie, which was a hit.  I got so many compliments on it.  I used to make it with bourbon (not sure if they're the same).

Brandy Pecan Pie
I ended up dressing up a little for Thanksgiving as well.  I put on a dress I got from Forever 21's Love21 line a few months ago, that fits me perfectly now, and I even put on some makeup (check this post).

Me Thanksgiving 2010

We had a lot of people over.  I don't think everyone was cleared out of my house until around 11pm.  I didn't take the next day off because I am saving my days for maternity leave.  Needless to say, I was EXHAUSTED the next day.  I got to work after 9:30 am, and my boss didn't let us leave until 4:00 pm.

Did you shop on Black Friday?
I don't shop on black friday; I can't deal witht the crowds & lines.  I'm an online shopper.  Since I've been wanting and needing a pair of flat boots (all of my shoes are high heels), I picked up a pair of Steve Madden Olster boots in black (orig price $199.99).  I found them on Piperlime.com onsale for $139! Theeeeennnnn.... I had a 25% off code from my sister, Shani, which made the boots come up to $109 with tax, shipping & handling.  I saved like $100!

There are other boots I want too.  I put them on my Christmas Wishlist though.  Hopefully someone will get them for me .:hint, hint:.

Good News!
Thanksgiving morning one of my friends girlfriends whom I'm also friends with told me she's expecting too! I'm so excited for her.  Not too long ago we were discussing pregnancy - the how's and what to do.  The most reliable tests etc.  I'm really excited because I was worried my baby wouldn't have a playmate her age.  She wants a boy .:womp womp:. (just kidding).  I'm hoping she has a girl too.

I sent her the What to Expect When You're Expecting book.  I ordered it on Thanksgiving day, and she received it Saturday afternoon, which was FAST!

24 Weeks today!

What’s going on?
I’ve reached 24 weeks today - 16 more weeks to go.  People are beginning to notice I am actually pregnant and not fat; two people offered their seats to me on Friday.

24 Weeks - November 21, 2010
24 Weeks - November 21, 2010
Yesterday while I was at my weekly hair appointment, I FAINTED! I laugh at it now, but I am pretty sure it scared a lot of people.  I think it was because I was overheated from sitting under the dryer, and it was just hot in the salon period.   Someone called the ambulance, and even though I told the operator I didn’t need anyone to come they insisted on coming.  I am fine.  The baby is fine.   Thank God.  As long as I stay cool this shouldn’t happen again.

Saturday, November 20, 2010 - After I fainted  (Shani took the pic)

  • My appetite is close to what it was pre-pregnancy.  I’ve never been a big eater, and I am not now.
  • I haven’t experienced any swelling of my hands or feet (Lucky me)
  • My memory is getting worse and worse.  I started using post-it’s at work to keep track of things.

What’s going on with the baby?
  • She’s about 8.5 inches long
  • She weighs a little over 1lb (She will gain 6oz per week up until the end)
  • She moves a heck of a whole lot now.  She’s actually moving now
  • She has basic control over all of her senses
  • Her lungs have begun to form branches
  • Her brain in continuously growing, as well as her taste buds
  • Her inner ear is completely developed.

23 Weeks - Prenatal Appointment & More...

I had a prenatal appointment yesterday.  It went well.  My next appointment will be on December 15, 2010.

  • The results from my Level II scan came back normal.
  • My urine tested normal.
  • My blood pressure is normal.
  • I'm 138 lbs (with clothes and shoes on)
  • Her heartbeat was strong and fast as it should be
  • Dr. E stated we should start calling her by name now, which we've already started doing.

Traveling...
David wants to go to ATL for New Years, so he asked the doctor if it would be okay for me to travel (driving).  She said as long as he stops every 3 to 4 hours, it will be fine.  It'd take us FOREVER and a day to get there.  I'd rather just stay in NY.

Constipation...
My doctor told me to take Dulcolax stool softeners for the constipation I've began to experience lately.  We'll see how it works.  Prune juice, fruits, water, fiber one... nothing really works.

Birthplan?
We also asked her about whether or not we should have a birth plan.  She said it's good to have; however, there are things she will not do or can't do, such as:
  1. Allow candles or incense to burn (we didn't want that but she said she's had a requests for it)
  2. She must have IV access just in case of an emergency
  3. No more than 2 people in the room.  David will be the ONLY person in the room other than the doctor and nurses.
  4. No pictures or video during birth.  We are allowed to take pictures before and after.  She also told us a funny story about a friend/patient of hers who had pictures of her sons birth. The child ended up showing his neighborhood friends the pictures.  Needless to say, she was embarrassed.
How am I feeling?
Very freaking TIRED! I feel like I haven't slept in days. I did go to bed early last night as well. I don't know what's up.  I was an hour late for work because my alarm didn't go off. Uggh!

Anyway, that's it for the updates.

23 Weeks

Sunday, November 14, 2010 was the 1st day of my 23rd week.  It was quite uneventful. I basically rested all day since I had a fight party the night before for the Pac Man vs Margarito fight, and I was exhausted from that.  It didn't help that I was coming down with something either.

I don't think I've gotten too much bigger since the last week, but, here's a picture.

Saturday, November 13, 2010
Sunday, my sister Shani took me to get a pedicure Since I can no longer reach down to give myself a pedicure she took me to Dashing Diva.  I don't remember the last time I had one. Had to be over a month.  Bad, I know.  I normally do my own unless I am feeling lazy. In that case, I go to Dashing Diva on Montague St in Brooklyn Heights.

The woman doing Shani's pedicure asked me how many months pregnant I am.  I told her a little over 5 months. Her response "Oh you're BIG!"  That was the FIRST time EVER someone has said that.  I think any other woman probably would have taken offense to her comment.  I kind of got sick of hearing "you're so tiny."  It kind of made me worry.

Yesterday, which was Monday, I stayed home because I wasn't feeling well. I woke up dizzy, dehydrated, with a headache, and exhausted. I slept damn near all day & drank loads of water.  Then by mid-day I started cramping. I usually get that during the weekend; mostly on a Sunday.  It was weird.

What's going on with the baby?

  • She’s now the size of a papaya
  • She weighs about a pound +/- a few ounces
  • Her face is fully formed...minus the baby fat
  • Her taste buds are beginning to form
  • She's fine-tuning her sense of touch
  • Her brain cells and nerve endings are maturing
  • She’s sprouting two teeny-tiny nipples
  • She kicks/moves A LOT now sometimes I can barely rest.
  • I can feel her jump from when she has the hiccups
  • She will gain about 6 oz per week so that means at the end of 40 weeks she'll pu ton around 6 lbs 4oz more.

22 Weeks Today! (Belly Pics)

I hit 22 weeks today! .:Yay:. We're inching closer, and closer to the 40 week mark!  People keep telling me that the last trimester feels like years.  I hope not.  I don't know if I can deal with that.

22 Weeks

22 Weeks

My growing belly...
You've read about me complaining about the massive amounts of hair that has grown on my body.  The other day, my sister waxed my belly with the Nair Soothing Wax Strips Kit.  It was practically painless.  My belly looks 100 x's better, and is so smooth. I missed feeling it like this.  The next day I ended up getting a brazilian.  I can't even see down there now .. so what sense does it make? Funny! My mom told me I shouldn't wax because it may harm the baby .:side eye:.  There aren't any chemicals used.

My belly button is beginning to pop-out.  Still, no stretch marks.  They're hereditary anyway, so the chances of me getting them are close to none! Thank God!

Weight Gain...
I have no idea how much I weigh now.  I haven't weighed myself since my last prenatal visit.  I've never been obsessed with my weight, so that could be why.  I will know my weight on November 17th, which is my next prenatal visit.

When will I to stop working?
I honestly do not know, yet. I guess when January hits I should know something.  I've been saving up my vacation time, and trying to save my sick days.  I'll accumulate one more sick day in January before my March due date, so I'll see what I do.  I'm hoping The last week of February will be my last week of work. If I am able to work up until the big day, that's better for me too.

Fun Baby Facts...

  • She weighs about 1 lb.
  • She’s about the size of a cantaloupe.
  • Her lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct.
  • She's developing tiny tooth buds beneath her gums.
  • Her eyes have formed, but the irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment.
  • Her body is covered in lanugo.
  • She can now perceive light and dark.
  • She can also hear my voice, heartbeat, my gurgling stomach, and the whoosh-whoosh of blood circulating through my body.

Dear Non-Pregnant Women (Hilarious)

I found this on Babycenter.com.  It's funny.  At least to me it is ..  Especially since I know people really do most of these things.

Dear Non-Pregnant Person,

I hope you find these guidelines helpful in your interactions with pregnant women, as failing to follow them may result in serious physical harm. If you are thinking, surely she doesn’t mean me – then you should probably read this twice.

1. The appropriate response to a couple telling you they are having a baby is ‘Congratulations!’ with enthusiasm. Any other response makes you a jerk.

2. Through the wonders of science, we now know that ONLY the mother and father – not grandparents, make babies. Unless the baby is in your uterus or you are the man that helped put it there, you may not ever use the phrase ‘my baby’.

3. On the same note, unless you made the baby as defined in 2, the pregnancy, birth, and raising of the child are not about you. You do not have input. No one wants to hear your opinion unless they ask for it…

4. The body of a pregnant woman should be treated the same as any other body. You would not randomly touch someone’s stomach if they were not pregnant, nor would you inquire into the condition of their uterus, cervix, or how they plan to use their breasts. Pregnancy does not remove all traces of privacy from a woman.

5. Likewise, no woman wants to hear comments on her weight…ever. A pregnant woman does not find it flattering that you think she is about is pop, must be having twins, looks swollen or has gained weight in her face. Telling her she looks too small only makes her worry that she is somehow starving her baby. Making such comments invite her to critique your physical appearance and you may not act offended. The only acceptable comment on appearance is ‘You look fabulous!’

6. By the time we are 20-30 years old most of us have picked up on the fact that the summer is hot. We are hot every summer when we are not pregnant. We don’t need you to point out that we will be miserably hot before the baby comes. Nor do we need to know how badly you will feel for us because we will be pregnant during the summer and how glad you are that YOU will not be pregnant this coming summer.

7. There is a reason that tickets to Labor & Delivery are not yet sold on Ticketmaster. Childbirth is actually not a public event. It may sound crazy, but some women really do not relish the idea of their mother, MIL, or a host of other family members seeing their bare butt and genitals. Also, some people simply feel like the birth of their child is a private and emotional moment to be shared only by the parents. You weren’t invited to be there when the baby was created, you probably wouldn’t be invited to be there when it comes out either.

8. Like everything else in life, unless you receive an invitation, you are NOT invited. This includes doctor appointments, ultrasounds, labor, delivery, the hospital, and the parent’s home. You do not decide if you will be there for the birth or if you will move in with the new parents to ‘help out’. If your assistance is desired, rest assured that you would be asked for it.

9. If you are asked to help after the birth, this means you should clean up the house, help with cooking meals, and generally stay out of the way. Holding the baby more than the parents, interfering with breastfeeding and sleeping schedules, and making a woman who is still leaking fluid from multiple locations lift a finger in housework is not helping.

10. The only people entitled to time with the baby are the parents. Whether they choose to have you at the hospital for the birth or ask for you to wait three weeks to visit, appreciate that you are being given the privilege of seeing their child. Complaining or showing disappointment only encourages the parents to include you less.

Sincerely,

All of the Pregnant Women in the World

Gymboree Circle of Friends Sale

Gymboree is having their Friends & Family sale, which offers 30% off to consumers in-store and online PRINT COUPON

David loves panda's.  He browsed the Gymboree site previously, and found a panda hat.  Unfortunately, it was in the newborn BOYS section.  Luckily, today when I went on the site I found the cutest girl outfit.

I'm contemplating getting it. It comes up to $99 without the 30% off.  It's cute though.

21 Weeks & Counting...

Saturday, was my last week in week 20, which was the half way mark.  Things can only move along more quickly from here (I hope).

Since I went to the salon Friday evening after work, I had my entire Saturday free.   David and I drove up to Delaware to visit his old HS, Saint Andrew's School since it was Parent's Weekend, and they had a football game going on.  We had to stop at least three times so that I could use the bathroom on the way.  I tried staying in the car once we got to the school since it was cold., BUT, David wanted to introduce me to all of his old teachers and classmates who were there.  I think I caught a litle cold from that too.  We stayed at the school until a little after 7pm, which thwarted our plans to have dinner and go to the Gymboree outlet.

Registry/Nursery Items...
We also had the opportunity to look at some cribs and strollers over the weekend.  We first began looking at crib & furniture separates, which after some calculations, we figured it would be much cheaper to just get a set.  We ended up finding one at JCPenney (Bella Crib Room Package; orig price: $1399.99) that we liked that's on-sale for $949.99 for three pieces.  Usually, the grandparents and/or God Parents end up purchasing the crib.  Hopefully, they will get together and split it?

We also picked out a travel system.  There aren't many purple ones, so we opted for the Graco Stylus Travel System Stroller - Elyse.  They also have a high chair to match; Graco Cozy Dinette High Chair.  Both are on our Toy's R Us registry.

Graco Stylus Travel System Stroller - Elyse

Graco Cozy Dinette High Chair
Since the baby will RUN through t-shirts, we added a load of those while we were at Babies R Us as well.

This is how I want the nursery.  David likes it too! It fits in well with the Noah's Arc theme.

How I am feeling...
Last night, I didn't sleep too well because I had crazy back pain throughout most of the night.  I did end up using the boppy body pillow.  It helped some, but, I think that the baby was just sitting in a bad spot or on a nerve.

I am starting to feel huge.  It's in my head I know because people are STILL saying I am small, and if they didn't know me, they'd think I just put on weight.

I'm a little less paranoid about the pregnancy since I can know feel her move every now and then.  Before, I was using the doppler maybe every other day to make sure the heartbeat was still there.  Now, I don't even remember the last time I've used it.

Fun Baby Facts... (source: What to Expect )
  • She's about the size of a large banana & about 11 oz in weight.
  • She can taste what I eat via the amniotic fluid
  • It's estimated she sleeps about 12-14 hours per day in my womb
